Beetlejuice-Inspired Fashion Editorial at Atlas Studios

Introduction

For this shoot, I wanted to capture the haunting yet glamorous essence of *Beetlejuice* character Lydia Deetz while infusing it with high-fashion vibes. Inspired by the work of Lyndsey Adler, I designed this editorial to be rich with dramatic lighting, gothic styles, and vivid colours. We shot at Atlas Studios in Bolton, an atmospheric old cotton mill, which added a gritty, industrial charm to the scenes.

The talented team behind this vision included:

Look 1:The Bold Red Dress

In this look, Miah is dressed in a voluminous red gown that contrasts sharply with the green lighting in the background. This colour scheme draws directly from *Beetlejuice*'s otherworldly aesthetic. The gown's flowing material adds movement, creating a sense of eerie elegance as it catches the light.

- Lighting Details: I used five lights here, with a key light focused on Miah's face using a snoot to focus the light. A fill light highlights the gown's flow to emphasize the fabric’s texture and depth using a beauty dish gridded to pick out the dress. Two light with green gels were positioned to flood the background and hair light to, casting that eerie glow. Using a Strip box softbox gridded for the hair light and an umbrella for the background. A fifth light with a gobo window attachment using blue to simulate nighttime to cast an atmospheric look.

Look 2:Gothic Glamour in Corset and Lace

In this look, Miah's dark corset and lacy gloves give off a Victorian-goth vibe, echoing Lydia Deetz’s edgy style from *Beetlejuice*. The set’s exposed pipes and faded walls enhance the look’s raw, haunted feel.

Lighting Details: To enhance the shadows and highlights on the corset, I placed a strong spotlight directly above Miah, casting a dramatic downward glow. The background lights with green and blue gels created a mysterious haze, giving the impression of fog creeping in.

Look 3:Green Velvet Elegance*

This green velvet dress, chosen by Alice, feels like a nod to the iconic Beetlejuice film but with a modern twist. Miah’s hair and makeup, styled by Danielle, bring a touch of punk to the look, balancing the gothic and glam elements.

Lighting Details: For this outfit, I used a single spotlight to accentuate Miah’s form and soften the shadows around her face. Background lights in purple and green helped bring a supernatural feel to the frame, echoing the spooky color scheme of the movie.

Conclusion:

This shoot was an incredible opportunity to explore creative lighting and fashion storytelling. Each look represents a unique take on the *Beetlejuice* theme, and the old mill provided the perfect backdrop for this editorial.
