A Day in the Life of a Fashion Photographer: Capturing "Untangled Perceptions" at Atlas Studios

As a fashion photographer, no two days are the same, but some days stand out as truly memorable. One such day was our recent shoot for the project "Untangled Perceptions" at the picturesque Atlas Studios. It was a day filled with creativity, collaboration, and stunning visuals, though it did come with its own set of challenges. Let me take you through the journey of capturing this exciting project.

The Concept: Untangled Perceptions

"Untangled Perceptions" was a unique project aimed at exploring the multifaceted nature of identity and style. We planned to create five distinct looks, each telling a different story. The team included a talented stylist, an experienced hair and makeup artist, a charismatic model, and of course, my trusty camera and creative vision.

The Team

• Stylist: Alice Chadband @achadbandstyling

  Alice brought an eclectic mix of outfits that ranged from avant-garde to classic elegance. Each look was meticulously planned to align with the project's theme.

• Hair and Makeup Artist: Mia Ashcroft @amelialouisemua

  With a keen eye for detail, our hair and makeup artist ensured that each look was perfectly complemented by the right hairstyle and makeup.

• Model: Jess Cheung @majesstic_creature

  Jess’s ability to transform and embody different personas was crucial in bringing our vision to life.

The Setting: Atlas Studios

Atlas Studios provided the perfect backdrop for our shoot. With its versatile spaces and inspiring ambience, it allowed us to experiment with various settings and lighting conditions. The studio's industrial charm added a unique edge to our photos, making each shot more compelling.

The Shoot: Creating Magic with Four Looks

We started early in the morning, knowing that we had a packed schedule ahead. Here’s how the day unfolded:

1. First Look: Fierce striking red outfit

   • Description: A striking pose in a vibrant red robe with elaborate ruffles, creating a bold fashion statement. The robe’s red colour stands out against the dark industrial backdrop, which is accentuated with splashes of green and rusting, adding a layer of drama to the scene

   • Photo Highlight: One of my favourite shots from this look is where the model is standing by the green industrial door striking a powerful pose, this look is fierce and bold.

2. Second Look: Dark entanglement

   • Description: This look I decided to play with the theme of entanglement using fishnets and rope to create a feel of entrapment.

   • Photo Highlight: The model posed against a textured concrete breezeblock wall, the contrast between the urban backdrop and her bold dress and cage ensemble creating a striking image.

3. Third Look: Vintage Glamour

   • Description: The second image captures the essence of vintage glamour. The model, with dark, dramatic makeup and styled hair, wears a flowing, white dress with layered textures. The close-up shot highlights her intense gaze and the intricate details of her accessories, including a delicate choker and lace gloves.

   • Photo Highlight: We experimented with the rope against the white backdrop and created a vintage look and editing. I feel this worked.

4. Fourth Look: Avant-Garde dress

The Challenge: Time Constraints

Despite our best efforts, we faced time constraints and had to make the tough decision to leave the fifth look. It was a lesson in the unpredictable nature of shoots and the importance of flexibility. While it was disappointing not to complete the fifth look, the four we captured were beyond our expectations.

The Outcome: A Day to Remember

The photos from "Untangled Perceptions" are some of my favourites to date. Each image tells a story, showcasing the incredible talent and hard work of the entire team. From the ethereal elegance of the first look to the avant-garde artistry of the last, every photo is a testament to our collective creativity.
